What to expect?

EQUIPMENT

At first glance, the amount of equipment can be overwhelming: bat, helmet, fielding glove, cleats, batting gloves (if desired), and equipment bag (if desired). However, there is no need to buy all of this equipment brand new or all at once.

While the league does not provide the above equipment to every player, the league does have a large section of lightly used equipment that has been donated for anyone in need. Once your child has been drafted onto a team, his/her new coach can help supply any equipment needs. You can also donate your child’s lightly used, outgrown items to this collection.

DIVISIONS

Tee Ball (4-6 year old)

The purpose of Tee Ball is to introduce kids to the game of baseball and softball. You can expect 1-2 events per week. Prior to Opening Day, you can expect 1-2 practices a week, but once the season begins, each team will practice one weekday and will have one game on Saturday mornings.

Tee Ball practices could be at Olympic Field, Ritter Park, or really any space large enough for kids to spread out and learn the basic fundamentals of the game. Tee Ball games will always be on an actual baseball field, but due to space and needs, Tee Ball practices will not be on an actual baseball field.

Game play is really simple. The score is not kept, there are no strike outs, every child gets on base. Games are only two innings (lasts about an hour) and every player bats each inning.

Minor—Coach Pitch (6-8 year old)

In this division, the game begins to look more like a real baseball game. As the name indicates, the coach pitches to his/her own team but kids can strike out or get out on the bases.

You can expect 2-3 events per week in the Coach Pitch Division. Prior to Opening Day, this could be 3 practices, but once the season begins you can expect 2 games per week and maybe 1 practice. Games are typically an hour and a half. Most coaches want players to show up 30 minutes before the game so they can work on hitting in the batting cages.

Minor—Player Pitch (9-10 year old)

In this division, players will be allowed to steal bases and kids will begin to learn how to pitch. Coaches will continue to assist in pitching to help speed up the game.

You can expect 2-3 events per week in the Player Pitch Division. Prior to Opening Day, this could be 3 practices but once the season begins you can expect 2 games per week and maybe 1 practice. Games are typically an hour and a half. Most coaches want players to show up 30 minutes before the game so they can work on hitting in the batting cages.

Majors (10-12 year old)

In this division, the entire game is played by kids, coaches no longer assist in pitching. The games are more competitive, which includes adding more complex rules like Drop Third Strike and Infield Fly Rule.

You can expect 3-4 events per week in the Major Division. Prior to Opening Day, this could be 3 practices, but once the season begins you can expect 3 games per week and maybe 1 practice. Games are typically an hour and a half. Most coaches want players to show up 30-45 minutes before the game so they can work on hitting in the batting cages.

VOLUNTEERS

Little League is completely run by volunteers; from the president, to coaches, to field maintenance, to concession stand and press-box workers, to umpires. It is only possible to keep HLL running by the manpower of our incredible volunteers.

Every parent or guardian is expected to volunteer in some capacity a few times during the season. If these positions are not filled, the scheduled games cannot be played. The coach of every team will have a sign up sheet for volunteers.
